Prostate Growth

A prostate growth can be a scary situation for a patient, but not all growths are necessarily cancerous.

What to Do about a Prostate Growth

For many men, a prostate growth is the last thing they expect at a doctor’s appointment. Though they may have been having impotence troubles or urinary troubles, the idea of a growth can seem to be impossible. But while most people immediately think of cancer when it comes to growths, this is not always the case. In some cases, a growth can be completely benign in nature, even if it is causing troubles with the urination and the ejaculation in a man.

A man should be checking his prostate from time to time to see if he can palpate any obvious growths. If this is not possible or the man is not comfortable with this, going to a doctor regularly will help to spot any growths before they become too large or a cancer is able to spread.

When the prostate growth is hindering a man’s ability to ejaculate, there are a number of treatments which can be used – surgery and medication are the most frequently. Some growths need to be removed from the body in order to allow the prostate to function healthily again. In other cases, the growth may need to be treated with a medication to shrink its size. The treatment will vary, depending on the type of growth it ends up being.

For most men, a prostate growth is scary, but it is not a life threatening issue. In fact, some doctors are opting for a wait and see approach instead of immediately removing all growths. Some many shrink on their own or cause no troubles at all.
